Its been a while since I documented anything here and in that while a lot has changed. We saw a new addition to our family (our dog), Covid, lockdown, online classes, many deaths in the family and a lot more, but in the end I think we all emerged stronger if not smarter. Anyways, A grew up, she is soon going to be as tall as me. Her body is changing, We have had some talks, about crushes and periods and love and marriage and more. One amongst them is the topic of neutering.
It all started when we spayed the female cat that we were fostering. However our dog who is a jolly good fellow and all of 3 years old is not neutered. Now many a times A has tried to figure out how puppies are made, coz who does not like puppies, but so far, she only knows that there need to be a boy and a girl (a mom and a dad) for the puppies to be born and that only the mommy can have babies, but she does not know about the act that actually makes the babies. And I am in no mood to talk about that topic for another couple of years.
So the other day, while we were reading our books in the bed, A stops reading and asks "Amma, can we neuter human beings?" I stop reading too, and look at her, not liking one bit where this conversation may head if i do not give her the right answer and say "Yes" tentatively. Then she asks "But why? Do you mean even boys can be neutered?" I say "Yes" again very very hesitantly. To which she says "Why boys also Amma, they can't give birth!" I am just stumped and do not know how to respond to this. Thankfully she found something more interesting in her book and continued reading and forgot all about this conversation. Saved by the book this time! But I guess I should do my homework and have "the talk" with her soon!
Such a painful reminder of how fast A is growing up!
